ON A ROLL! HHS Unified Bocce Team Makes Their Home Debut, Wins Match

The Highlands High School Unified Bocce Team ("Rollin' Rams") hosted and won its first ever home match in the High School gymnasium on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025 vs. Mars High School, 2-0. Congratulations on a great effort by both teams!
 
Prior to the match, the school held a pep rally to introduce the team and the concept of the game of bocce to the students and staff. "We’d like to thank our students and staff for coming and cheering for both teams at the match," said HHS teacher and Unified Bocce Coach Mr. Scott Silverman. "This was ultimately an incredible school effort which created so much joy!"

The Highlands Unified Bocce Team includes Aiden Cale, Noelle Koedel, Andrew Kreinbrook, Jackson Nitowski, Wesley Pollick, Jasmine Sample, Jake Skundrich (match line judge) and Mallory Zendarski. In addition to Mr. Silverman, coaches include high school teachers Mr. John Millburn and Mrs. Mindy Eckenrod. Helping to officiate the match was Dr. Amber Dean, Director of Student Services for Highlands. 

The Unified Bocce Team is one of two unified sports offered at Highlands, with the other being Unified Track in the Spring. Special Olympics Unified Sports is a program that combines people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same sports teamsThe goal of Unified Sports is to promote friendship, understanding, and inclusion.
