Trauma Education and Response (TEAR) is a community approach in the Highlands School District to serving and supporting children who have experienced a traumatic event when law enforcement has been engaged with a family. Specifically, law enforcement notifies the TEAR team at the Highlands Family Center to work with school district staff as well as family center staff to provide supports and resources to the impacted family. School district staff prepare strategies to support the impacted school-age children, and the family center engages the adults to ensure family needs are met. Additionally, training is provided for community members to raise awareness about trauma’s impact on child development.
