HHS Vocal Music Students Visit the Big Apple!

On April 26-29, 2024, Highlands High School vocal music students and accompanying chaperones embarked on a journey to New York City for an exciting, fun-filled weekend of sights and sounds!

Choral director Mr. Michael Zeiler was thrilled about being able to do the NYC trip this year. "We have not participated in this experience since prior to Covid. Before that, we used to do this trip every other year," said Zeiler.

NYC trip highlights included:

The students participated in two Broadway workshops - vocal and choreography - with professional performers and coaches. Teaching the students vocals were Frank Viveros, who plays the Genie in Broadway's "Aladdin", and Eric Fotre Leach, music director, conductor, pianist and vocal coach. Showing the students some dance moves was Jasmine Rafael, a professional dancer and choreographer who performs in Broadway's "& Juliet". It was an amazing experience for all involved!

"This trip taught our students more than just music, it taught them about life beyond the classroom," said Mr. Zeiler. "Traveling is one of the most important educational experiences we can provide our students. We can easily apply all the career and work force readiness standards with all the musical exposure that was provided to our students," he said. "The opportunities and experiences that this kind of trip presents are nothing short of phenomenal and life-changing."
