Highlands Elementary 4th graders help library media specialist Mrs. Laurie Malcolm level library books for the school's Accelerated Reader Program. Some retired Highlands teachers have also volunteered to come to HES this month to help with this endeavor!
Having students spend time reading at their level helps to improve their comprehension, fluency and overall confidence as a reader. Highlands Elementary's Accelerated Reader Program encourages students to find and read books at their level (based on a previous assessment), then take a 10-question quiz to check their understanding of the book they read. Students earn points and work toward an individual reading goal, receiving both classroom and school-wide incentives.
