A select group of 20 Highlands Middle School 5th and 6th grade band students had the honor of participating in the Indiana University of Pennsylvania's Crimson Hawk Elementary Band Summit on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
The one-day event included approximately 500 elementary band students from 28 school districts in the region. At the Summit, the students worked with outstanding guest conductors who rehearsed them as a group for the first time, and prepared them for an evening performance. Because of the large number of students, the group had to be separated into three smaller ensembles that rotated on the stage, playing for more than 800 spectators!
"Our students represented us well. They received many compliments from the staff at the Summit, who remarked about their respectful behavior, high ability and being great kids all around," said Highlands Middle School Band Director Lee Lynn.
