Freezin' for a Reason in the Polar Plunge!
03/13/2023
Highlands staff and students braved the chilly weather and cold water to participate in the Special Olympics PA Pittsburgh "Cool Schools" Polar Plunge on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Acrisure Stadium. Our Highlands team raised $2,137 for the cause, surpassing our original goal of $1,000! Among the attendees from Highlands were 10 student jumpers and four staff jumpers - High School teachers Todd Bengel, Kristen Gettens, Scott Silverman and Jordan Thompson.
Unified Team Approved
At the February 2023 Highlands School Board Meeting, the Board of Directors accepted a donation from Special Olympics to sponsor our Unified Track Team. "It is so exciting that we can see the impact of our fundraising this year," said Dr. Amber Dean, Highlands Student Services Director.
High School teacher Faith Foster is coordinating the efforts for our Unified Track Team. This year's home Unified Track meet at Golden Rams Stadium will be held on April 12 at 4:00 pm vs. Armstrong/ Butler. The Highlands community is encouraged to attend the meet and cheer on the teams. "We look forward to filling the stands," said Dr. Dean.
