Twenty-seven Highlands High School juniors and sophomores were inducted into the National Honor Society at a candlelight ceremony on Thursday, May 26, 2022. NHS Vice President Fatama Shareef led the ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance, and NHS Treasurer Allison Love gave the Invocation. After welcome remarks by Highlands Superintendent Dr. Monique Mawhinney, NHS President Maria Fabregas introduced guest speaker, Mrs. Colleen Katz, HHS English Teacher. Each of the four NHS Officers (including Maera Williams, Secretary) spoke about the four pillars of National Honor Society membership - Scholarship, Leadership, Character and Service. Maria Fabregas announced the names of each inductee, who came forward to light a candle and stand on the stage. Once all of the inductees were on the stage, HHS Principal Dr. Laura Burns administered the NHS Oath. Thank you to everyone involved, especially NHS Sponsors Mrs. Mindy Eckenrod and Mrs. Jordan Murdock, in making this ceremony so special and meaningful!
