Kindergarten Students Have Eventful End of School Year
06/13/2022
Highlands Kindergarten students had a very busy and fun-filled end of the 2021-22 school year!
ALPHABET FUN
Kindergartners were excited to celebrate the union of the letters Q and U with a "wedding ceremony" and reception for the two letters of the alphabet that are almost always joined together! Students also focused on a mixed-up alphabet for the remainder of the school year; each day included an activity around a specific letter. In the photos, students are doing an activity for “N” - the Nighttime Sky. They learned about constellations and created their own and named them.
EARTH'S LANDFORMS
Kindergarten students learned about the earth’s landforms by creating a food project. They used Hershey Kisses for mountains, chocolate chips for hills, graham crackers for plains, vanilla wafers for plateaus, blue icing for water around the landforms and added some healthy goldfish! Students were able to consume their edible project after the lesson.
FIESTA!
Kindergartners celebrated Cinco de Mayo by making sombrero headbands and maracas, doing "Tacobout Shapes", eating chips and salsa and participating in a parade to fun fiesta music!
SUNDAE FUNDAY!
The HECC PBIS reward in May was a Sundae Funday! Students were able to create their own ice cream sundaes with whipped cream and a variety of toppings.
FIELD TRIP
A highlight of end-year events is always the field trip! This year, Kindergartners went to Soergel Orchards family farm in Wexford, where they learned all about various plants and foods. They also got to see the chickens and hens and learn about the importance of bees for pollination.
FUN FEST!
HECC students and staff had a blast at the school's Fun Fest sponsored by the Highlands K-4 PTO. The event featured inflatables, Kona Ice snow cones, popcorn, face painting, a photo booth, games and prizes. Thank you, PTO!
GRADUATION!
During the last week of school, several Kindergarten graduation ceremonies were held in the HECC multi-purpose room for students and families. The students presented a few songs they learned with music teacher Mrs. Karavlan and received certificates of completion from their teachers.
LAST DAY OF KINDERGARTEN!
Highlands Early Childhood Center staff and students celebrated the last day of school on June 3 by taking class (and staff!) pictures together to mark the occasion. The students will move on to Highlands Elementary School next year for 1st Grade.
Thank you to the HECC Staff for always providing photos throughout the school year!
