High School Honors Top Academic Achievers

Highlands High School honored 98 top academic achievers at the annual Academic Honors Ceremony on Monday, May 10, 2021. Students honored in grades 9-12 had either earned a 96% or higher through the first three quarters, were one of the top 10 in their grade level, or were an Outstanding Career and Technology student. Participating in the evening's event were HHS principals Mr. Charles Mort and Mr. Shawn Bennis, district superintendent Dr. Monique Mawhinney, NHS student Tessa Deemer, and guest speaker and Highlands alum Mr. Dale Shaw

Mr. Shaw, a 1987 Highlands graduate and a classmate and teammate of Mr. Bennis, is currently the Region Business Director for Janssen Neuroscience Franchise, a division of Johnson & Johnson. He is also a NFL Official in his 9th season with the league, and has officiated over 300 professional and college football games. A dynamic and engaging speaker, Mr. Shaw stressed to the student achievers that attitude and effort are the two defining factors that shape an individual's path and purpose in life. View his entire speech in the video below.
