HMS Students Succeed in Online Math Competition

24 Highlands Middle School Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) students in grades 5-8 were members of the Allegheny County school teams that took 1st Place in a two-week online Math Competition for the strategy game, 24.

The goal of 24 is to take 4 given numbers and add, subtract, multiple and/or divide to get the answer 24. Placed in teams against other schools in Allegheny County, our GATE students were on the 1st Place winning teams of their grade division. In addition, 8th grader Jocelyn Bielak won 2nd Place among all of the 8th grade students who competed.

Highlands GATE teacher Mrs. Rebecca Mentecky was proud of their accomplishments. "We have some awesome students at our Middle School," she said.
