HES Students and Staff Provide Items for Families in Need During Holidays

HES treats

The Highlands Elementary Student Council, under the supervision of 2nd grade teacher Mrs. Jody Shumaker, collected about 450 items for its holiday food drive, providing a bag of food for 38 elementary students in need.

Twenty-one district families in the school’s Christmas Angel Tree Program received holiday gifts purchased and donated by district staff and community members. Those families also received a bag of items from the food drive.

The HES Student Council also made dog pull toys using donated fleece material for the local Animal Protectors.

An HES second grade classroom “adopted” the residents of Applewood Personal Care Home in Brackenridge, providing each of them with a Christmas mug filled with packages of hot cocoa, marshmallows, and snack mix.

The monetary proceeds from the HES holiday coloring contest will be donated to Children's Hospital. Over 225 colored pictures from that contest were given to Meals on Wheels to be placed in the bagged lunches over the Christmas holiday.

What a fantastic effort by Highlands Elementary School students and staff!
