Highlands 6th Graders Visit Flight 93 Memorial Museum
In September, Highlands Middle School 6th graders spent an impactful and engaging day at the Flight 93 Memorial Museum in Shanksville as a culminating activity of their lessons and projects that focused on the tragic historical events of 9/11.
Prior to the field trip, students researched Flight 93 passenger biographies and created brochures through cross-curricular instruction based on the essential questions of “What type of actions to people associate with superheroes”? and “What heroic actions took place during 9/11 and its aftermath?”. Through comparing and contrasting superheroes with 9/11 heroes, the students learned that people are ultimately considered heroes through their actions.
At the Flight 93 Memorial Museum, students visited the Learning Center, Flight Path/Overlook, Visitor Center, Memorial Groves and Plaza, Walking Trails and the Tower of Voices.
Special thanks to HMS 6th grade teachers Mrs. Jennifer Kosior and Ms. Julie Hiester!
