Call to Action: Highlands Family Center Needs Your Support
DID YOU KNOW?
The Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU) receives about half of the funding for its family centers - including the HIGHLANDS FAMILY CENTER - from the PA Department of Human Services (DHS) and its Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL), through Allegheny County Department of Human Services.
Through a proposed change in funding, the AIU, if selected as a family center operator, would lose at least $1.3 million in funding for the centers, possibly forcing the Highlands Family Center to close.
The Highlands Family Center is a community-based program designed to provide families with resources, opportunities and experiences that enable them to give their child the best start in life and to build strong families. These goals are accomplished through home-based services, parent support groups, parent/child activities, relationship building and mentoring. Family support centers believe strong parents make strong communities, where the hope of our children's future begins. The center is located in Tarentum.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Please view the AIU's letter to The Honorable Jay Costa, PA Senator and contact him about your own success with the Highlands Family Center and/or urge him to advocate for proper funding.
