    A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

    Highlands Families:

Earlier today, March 30, 2020, Governor Wolf extended the stay at home order and closure of all non-essential businesses through April 30. In addition, he announced that all schools will remain closed indefinitely. As a result, all Highlands School District facilities, buildings and grounds will remain closed until further notice.

As you were previously notified, this week the district is transitioning to mandatory online learning for students in grades K-12. The High School students started online instruction today, while the Middle School, Elementary and Early Childhood Center will begin on Wednesday, April 1. Specific instructions for students to report their daily attendance will be shared by your child’s building principal.

Those students who require hard copy materials will be provided with specific information on how those materials will be distributed via a one call message by the end of the day tomorrow.

The district is as frustrated as you are with the unknown of the extended school closure. However, it is critical that we all adhere to the stay at home order to the best of our ability in an attempt to save lives. We understand that this new way of learning for our students is not ideal, but it’s what is needed during this challenging time. We ask that you remain patient as we implement the online learning plan and want you to know that we will work with you to make the transition as smooth as possible. Remember, we are preparing, planning and implementing for something in which there is no guide book because it hasn’t happened in our time. With all of that being said, the district will continue to work tirelessly in order to do what is best for our students and school community.

    Stay healthy and safe.

    Dr. Monique Mawhinney, Superintendent

  • BUILDINGS CLOSED

    STATE ASSESSMENTS
On March 19, the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) announced that it is canceling all state assessments PSSA testing and Keystone exams for the 2019-20 school year as a result of COVID-19. This includes the Pennsylvania Alternate System of Assessment (PASA).
