     Week of January 10th:

    It Takes a Child

This week the students and I have been exploring author's purpose and research during class time through the documentary It Takes a Child. This documentary is focused on a young man's efforts to bring awareness to and stop child labor in India. Throughout the course of this week we have explored child labor in India and Bangladesh as well as some of the factors that lead to children being forced to work and what organizations and groups around the world are attempting to do to stop this from happening. After watching the documentary, the students are currently working on a culminating project to continue to explore child labor in the modern day by choosing a country, a product, a company, or an organization that is either using or attempting to shut down child labor. The students are researching these companies and they are using that research to create a final project that they will present to the class with a purpose of their own. They are going to either be informing us about what they have learned through their research or persuading us to take a stand against/join an organization to help work towards the erasure of child labor in other parts of the world.
