As part of the Middle School’s new “Choice Day” club/activity period for students, 6th grade English / Language Arts teacher Lauren DeMaria offered knitting and crocheting. Students watched a video on tying a slipknot, then they practiced the “cast on” process taught by Ms. DeMaria. One student, who is self-taught, assisted students with a knit stitch. Gr. 6 math teacher Rebecca Sue also helped students as they learned how to create a chain in crochet. The club/activity period was implemented this year to help students spark an interest something new, socialize with others, develop skills to work in small groups and build relationships. Students may select a new club/activity every 9 weeks.
