7th Grade Students Attend Girls in Gaming Summit at CMU

A group of Highlands 7th grade girls had a fascinating experience at the Girls in Gaming Summit at Carnegie Mellon University last month, hearing from experts in the gaming field and discovering the various professions that can be pursued within it (2D and 3D Artists, Creative Writers, Technical Writers, Marketing, Producing, etc.). A panel discussion also addressed how gaming is incorporated into other fields, such as healthcare.

Our students also enjoyed a private tour led by a Highlands graduate! They rode in a computer-augmented virtual environment (CAVE) and experienced the theory behind a "dark ride", where one or more senses are impaired. They also had a brief lesson in rollercoaster development. Thank you to teachers Mrs. Mentecky and Ms. McKenna for sharing this example of the district's continued focus on Career & Workforce Readiness!
