In April, more than 50 Highlands High International Club students visited the Nationality Rooms at the University of Pittsburgh’s Cathedral of Learning. The tour offered students a unique opportunity to explore the beautifully crafted rooms that celebrate the cultural heritage of Pittsburgh’s diverse communities.
Students were especially captivated by the intricate designs and cultural significance of rooms such as the African heritage, Austrian, Chinese, Early American, English, Filipino, Greek, Israeli heritage, Japanese and more. Many were surprised to learn that Pitt students attend classes in these historic spaces, all within the Cathedral’s 42 stories of stunning gothic architecture.
After the tour, the group headed to Tepache Mexican Restaurant in Fox Chapel, where students practiced their Spanish by ordering traditional Mexican food. The outing ended on a sweet note as two students, Zane Callen and Jett Lloyd-Jackson, celebrated their birthdays with tres leches cake and churros.
The International Club comprises World Language and AFS students. For more information, contact club sponsor Mr. Joe Novak.
