11/17/2023
CONGRATULATIONS to senior Katelyn Myers for her commitment to continue her academic and basketball career at the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown. The UPJ Mountain Cats compete in the NCAA Division II as a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
The Highlands Athletic Department celebrated Katelyn’s signing with her family and friends on Nov. 14.
As a 4-year starter and the captain for the Girls Varsity Basketball Team, Katelyn was selected for the 1st Team All Section as well as named Athlete of the Week in her junior year. Katelyn also tied the school record for 10 three-pointers in one game! She played AAU Basketball for 7 years; the last 4 years with SLAAM AAU. As a scholar athlete, Katelyn is also an active member of the National Honor Society.
She chose to attend UPJ because of the basketball opportunities and the academic offerings for a nursing degree. “I loved the atmosphere of the school as well as the location because it’s not too far from home,” said Katelyn, who also has a great relationship with the UPJ coaching staff. “I immediately felt part of a new family,” she said.
Katelyn’s family includes her parents, Kerry & Kathy, and brothers Devin (not pictured) and Korry. She is the granddaughter of Sylvia Kania and Carol Myers (not pictured). Also in attendance at her signing was her AAU coach, Steve Norman, and Highlands Varsity Girls Basketball Coach Shawn Bennis.
Congratulations and good luck, Katelyn!
