GOTR Students Improve Weather Station, Beautify Butterfly Garden at HES
June 2021
Highlands Elementary School 3rd and 4th grade students who participated in this year's Girls on the Run (GOTR) Program also tackled a community service project as part of the program's goals to build confidence and other important life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and working together.
With the help of HES 2nd grade teacher Mrs. Jody Shumaker, the girls improved the original weather station area and beautified the butterfly garden at the rear of Highlands Elementary School with thermometers, painted weather symbols, colorful rocks and stones, fresh mulch, and plants and flowers. The gallery above includes a couple "before" photos at the beginning of the slideshow.
Thank you and congratulations to the GOTR crew for doing an outstanding job: Ella Brauch, Ruby Buckham, Jaela Chapel, Miley Dorinsky, Mackenzie Klein, Nevaeh Koncar, Gabby Linderman, Aoife Murphy, Alaina Schubert, Annalie Sommers, Abby Stawinski, Kendall Walter, Hadley Walter, and Fiona Zewe.
Also assisting with the GOTR program this past year were HES school counselor Mrs. Angela Boyer, speech therapist Mrs. Vickie Nania, and Ms. Cara Kelly, Behavior Health Liaison/MAPS, University of Pittsburgh.
Kudos!
