Highlands Legion Baseball Players Volunteer at Produce to People

On Tuesday, June 11, students on the Highlands Legion Baseball Team representing Brackenridge American Legion Post 226, volunteered at the Produce to People event held by Allegheny Valley Association of Churches in conjunction with the Food Bank.

Led by Head Varsity Coach Jeff Campbell, Volunteer Coach Doug Nulph and Volunteer Coach Ray Kerr, the players spent the early evening in the parking lot at Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, passing out produce and assisting families loading carts and unloading the produce into cars.

Coach Campbell wants to teach more than baseball lessons this Legion season and wanted a way to give back to the community while also representing the values of the Legion they are honored to wear the number of -Post 226. The boys worked hard, but also hopefully took to heart the need for humble service in their community.

Thank you to Highlands teacher, Mr. Sean Dicer, for also volunteering and for taking some pictures!

Produce to People is a year-long program that services our community every second Tuesday of the month. Next month’s date is July 9, and more groups and families are always needed to volunteer! Check out this link: http://avaoc.org/volunteer/

Special thanks to Kate Bielak for the article.
