Senior AFS Student Represents Highlands at PMEA All-State Festival
Highlands High School senior and AFS foreign exchange student Luna Vavourakis had the honor of representing Highlands at the 2019 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) All-State Honors Festival on April 3-6 in Pittsburgh. The city also hosted the NAfME All-East Festival & Conference at the same time.
This was Highlands' third consecutive showing at States in recent years. "Luna, along with some of the very best musicians from across the Commonwealth, learned and performed an outstanding and very challenging program," said Highlands High School Band Director Mr. Matthew Beresik.
In addition to her involvement in the High School Marching Band and Concert Band, Luna is a member of the Highlands Varsity Soccer Team and Concert Choir. She also recently performed the lead female role of Esmeralda in the High School's musical production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
After graduation, Luna plans to return to her home country of Belgium to study the saxophone (classical) for a 5-year bachelor/masters degree.
CONGRATULATIONS, LUNA!
