Student Accompanist Performs at District 1 Choir Festival, Advances to Regional
Highlands High School sophomore Joshua Beck was the first student in Highlands history and PMEA District 1 history to perform as a student accompanist for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 1 Choir Festival on February 6-8, 2019 at Mt. Lebanon High School. In addition, Josh was the only accompanist selected to represent District 1 and Highlands at the Regional Choir Festival in March!
Josh has been playing piano for 8 years, studying with Nancy Sheehan and currently, Joe Sheehan. At Highlands High School, he is a student accompanist for choral ensembles under the direction of Mr. Michael Zeiler, as well as a musician in the band under the direction of Mr. Matthew Beresik.
"I plan on continuing doing music after I graduate, and possibly going to school for it," Josh said. "PMEA has been a lot of fun and it has been a great learning experience. It has challenged me by having to prepare music for an audition and performance. I've enjoyed working with talented students and professional musicians during PMEA District 1 Choir."
Josh is the son of Philip & Christa Beck of Natrona Heights.
CONGRATULATIONS, Josh! Highlands is proud of you!
