Highlands Swimmers Qualify for State Competition

At the WPIAL Class AA Swimming Championships the weekend of March 3, the Highlands Girls 200 medley relay team took 5th and the 200 freestyle relay team took 4th and won an automatic bid to state competition. Both relay teams were comprised of Breea Bonnett, Rachel Blackburn, Bailey Bonnett and Jocelyn Gillette.
Bailey Bonnett earned her second WPIAL swimming GOLD with two first places in her 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. She and also broke the WPIAL record in the100 breaststroke!
Freshman Rachel Blackburn placed 11th in the 100 breaststroke and 11th in her 200 freestyle. Breea Bonnett placed 19th in her 200 IM in her first appearance at WPIALs as a freshman!
The Highlands Boys 400 freestyle relay team, comprised of Ben Blackburn, Jarrod Masarik, Derek Christopher and Cole Masarik, also did well. They placed 13th and dropped almost 13 seconds.
Senior Ben Blackburn placed 8th in his 200 IM and won his heat in the 100 breaststroke to earn 8th place overall. Cole Masarik won his heat and placed 16th overall in the 100 breaststroke in his first WPIAL appearance as a junior. Everyone swam their fastest times!
