Highlands Varsity Marching Band Unveils “Party in the USA” Theme for 2026–27 Season

The Highlands Varsity Marching Band, led by director Mr. Matthew Beresik, officially revealed its 2026-27 halftime show and music theme, Party in the USA, during the program’s annual season kickoff event on May 21, with band students and families gathered in the Highlands High School Auditorium.

Following the band’s successful, well-received performance in Washington, D.C., this spring and in celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary, HVMB announced a patriotic, energetic production that will bring the excitement of America’s music and culture to the football field this fall and beyond.

The show will feature a variety of iconic selections, including:

• The Top Gun Anthem

• We’re An American Band – Grand Funk Railroad

• America the Beautiful and Hallelujah I Love Her So – as performed by Ray Charles

• American Pie – Don McLean

• The Battle Hymn Chorale

 

• Party in the USA – Miley Cyrus

• Americano – Lady Gaga

• Firework – Katy Perry

 

and more fun and surprises to come! The students’ enthusiasm was evident as they got their first look at the music they will bring to life this fall!

 

The evening also celebrated many important traditions and milestones within the program. New families and rookie members were welcomed to the Highlands marching band family, and the band held its annual Senior Sendoff, recognizing graduating members for their contributions to the program. Students also participated in elections for next year’s Band Council.

 

One of the evening’s most meaningful moments was the ceremonial Passing of the Mace, which officially introduced Lyric Taylor and Leighann Hileman as the Highlands Varsity Marching Band’s new Drum Majors. The program also recognized its new Bandfront Captains: Leah Skundrich - Drill Team Captain, and Ashlyn Negley - Colorguard Captain.

 

With summer band camp on the horizon in late July, students left the event energized and excited about the work ahead. And we definitely look forward to having a Party in the USA with the "Pride of Highlands"  --- our marching band!
