Program of Studies & Scheduling Process

    Dear Parents/Guardians:

As we head into Spring of 2019 we will, once again, be approaching an important step in your child’s education and future: scheduling classes for next school year. Selecting the appropriate courses is a decision that should carefully be made to best prepare your son or daughter for their post-secondary education or career. We understand that this process can be difficult and overwhelming at times, and feel it is best done in a collaborative process between students, parents, school counselors, and teachers.

With this in mind, we have made some changes to better facilitate this collaboration and provide more support to your child throughout the scheduling process. We will be holding an Elective Fair during the school day on Tuesday, March 12, 2019.  School Counselors will give an overview of required courses and graduation requirements.  In addition, teachers will share information on new classes, and highlights of their elective offerings.  School counselors, as well as building administrators, will be available to answer student-specific questions during the Fair. The Elective Fair is grade specific and will begin at 12:18 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. The schedule is as follows:

    • FRESHMAN 12:18pm – 1:00pm
    • SOPHOMORE 1:03pm – 1:45pm
    • JUNIOR 1:48pm – 2:30pm

All course selections will be completed online this year using the Power School Parent Portal; thus, allowing you to enter the course requests with your son or daughter at home. The time frame to enter your child’s online requests will be Monday, March 18 through Wednesday, March 27, 2019. School Counselors will meet with Juniors on Monday, March 18, Sophomores on Tuesday, March 19, and Freshmen on Wednesday, March 20 to begin the process.  Families with any scheduling questions, technical questions, or access to the Internet please call the Highlands High School office at 724-226-1000 to set up an appointment.  We are here to ensure all of your questions are answered.

We hope that you take advantage of this opportunity to work together in building the best program possible for your son or daughter. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
