Our approach to gifted education aligns with the Highlands School District's mission to create a quality, caring educational environment. We are dedicated to developing academic, vocational, and social programs that enable all students, including those identified as gifted, to achieve their highest potential. We believe in a collaborative effort among families, the community, and local businesses and industries to ensure that all students are well-prepared to function as effective citizens in an ever-changing global community.
The Highlands School District provides K-12 gifted education services to students identified as eligible and in need of gifted support. Services are designed to meet the individualized needs of students, as outlined in each student’s Gifted Individualized Education Program (GIEP). In compliance with Chapter 16 of the PA School Code, the District’s gifted services are planned to provide specially designed instruction and experiences to address a gifted learner’s needs for enrichment and/or acceleration and to accommodate the student’s individual academic abilities.

In Pennsylvania, the provision of services for identified gifted students is regulated by Chapter 16 of the School Code. The Highlands School District adheres to these regulations through its School Board Policy 114 - Gifted Education, which outlines the district's specific policies for supporting gifted learners.
