Track alumni Vicki Crise and Vicki Miller Highlands Alum Keep On Trackin'

Four former members of the Highlands track team kicked off their collegiate athletic careers with solid performances in recent indoor track meets. Vicki Miller, who qualified for the 2011 state meet, won the shot put in her debut for Seton Hill University. Miller, who is the Rams’ record holder in the shot, threw 37 feet, 3 inches for victory in a dual meet at Lake Erie College. In the same meet, Brandy Nortum was second in the triple jump at 33-11¼ and also participated in the long jump for the Lake Erie Storm. At the Golden Flash Gala at Kent State, Nortum was the top triple jumper for Lake Erie, finishing No. 12 in a field of 21. Vicki Crise opened her track career in a meet at Appalachian State in North Carolina. Running for Winthrop University, the 2010 state qualifier ran 8.82 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles, good for No. 14 of 27 runners. Crise, who holds two school records, also participated in the 400 dash. Carly Deskins, another Highlands’ record holder, finished second in the javelin for Lehigh University in its season and home opener. Deskins had a throw of 110-6. All four are 2011 Highlands graduates.
